The One Question

One question, every season. Every person, by name.

You choose the question. Your people get a text with a link, answer in their own words, and tap the season they're in. Every answer lands with a person at your church who knows their name.

Starts at $29 a month, by your typical Sunday attendance. The Church Activation Fund may be able to cover it if needed. See how it works

What your people see

About a minute, on their phone.

No app and no account. A text, a link, their own words.

  1. 1They text to join

Your church replies with a link to your question. Anyone can reply STOP.

  2. The question on a phone: What is God doing in your life right now? The answer typed in: Honestly, I'm tired. Work has been a lot, and I haven't had much left for my family or for God.

    2They answer in their words

A sentence is plenty. Then one tap for their season.

  3. The close on a phone: Thank you. Someone from Cedar Ridge Church who knows your name will read this.

    3A person reads it

The season tap

One tap for the season they're in.

The same four every time, under any question you ask, so you can see what moved from one season to the next.

  • GrowingI want more
  • Steadysame as it has been for a while
  • Stretchedcarrying more than I can sustain
  • In transitionsomething big is changing in my life

Tap Stretched and their card carries a rest flag. Your reader offers rest before any new ask.

Marcus Ellery's answer on the reader's line: Honestly, a lot. My dad moved in with us after his surgery and I'm stretched thin between him, the kids, and work. Tagged Stretched, Rest?, and Waiting.
On the reader's line, Stretched comes with a rest flag. Shown with sample data.
What you see

Every answer lands on a person.

By name, in their words, with their season beside it. The reader you choose sees who is still waiting to hear back.

The reader's line for Cedar Ridge Church: 34 people are waiting to hear from you. Answers by name with their seasons: Marcus Ellery, Stretched, rest flag, waiting; Joy Abernathy, Growing, a story, replied; Camila Reyes, In transition, replied.

A person replies, and it's on the card.

A call, a prayer, a meal. Your reader writes one line, and the card shows who replied and when.

From Marcus Ellery's card: Pastor Dan replied on 2026-10-03: Called Marcus Tuesday night and prayed with him. Bringing a meal Thursday.

Every season

The room on one page. Name-free for your elders.

Each quarter you get a read of the room: who answered, and the four seasons as counts. You see it by name. Your elders see the same read without names.

The quarterly read for Cedar Ridge Church, name-free: The room, this quarter. 200 on the line, and the room in four seasons: 62 Growing, 53 Steady, 35 Stretched, 26 In transition
The same read, by name for you and name-free for your elders. Shown with sample data.

Stretched, surfaced early.

In this sample read of 200 people, 35 tapped Stretched and 24 were named before day 90, while it was still early. Readers marked 21 stories and 21 needs.

Further down the read: 35 Stretched this quarter, 24 surfaced before day 90, 24 rest offered, then 21 stories surfaced and 21 needs surfaced, each marked by a reader

Where it leads

Your read points to the next step.

After your first read, we sit down with you over it. A room that is mostly Growing often means people ready for The Martha Project. A room that is mostly Stretched means care comes first. Your church decides.

62GrowingReady for more. Often ready for Martha.
53SteadyHolding well. Keep them close.
35StretchedCarrying too much. Care comes first.
26In transitionSomething big is changing. Walk with them.

Not a church? If you lead a nonprofit, a school or another community, let's talk about the one question you'd ask your people. Start a conversation →

Before you start

The questions pastors ask us.

Who reads the answers?

The reader you name. In a smaller church that is often you and an admin. In a larger one, name readers who already know the people: connections, group leaders, team leads. Unseen Church carries your question out and brings the answers back to you. We don't read, interpret or act on what your people share.

Who can see what?

Every answer has a name, because the point is a person being known. Your readers and pastors see names. Your elders get the name-free read. Answers stay with your church, are never shown to another church, and export by person to CSV for your own people system.

What if someone is in crisis?

The line is for the everyday, and every screen says so: if you are in crisis or need help right now, reach out to your church directly, or call or text 988 anytime. Unseen Church surfaces what people share to the people you name. We never monitor the line, and we are never the responder. Your church agrees its own care protocol before the line opens.

How often does the question go out?

Once a season. Each person gets the question again about 90 days after their last one, as a text with their own link. They answer through the link, and anyone can reply STOP at any time.

What if someone doesn't answer?

Nobody is chased. The read shows who has answered and who hasn't yet, so someone who knows them can decide whether a personal word would help.

Can people stop?

Yes. People join by texting your church's keyword, and anyone can reply STOP at any time.

Can I write my own question?

Yes, inside four shapes: how they're doing, what God is doing, what they need, or who has been there for them. We review it before it goes out. One boundary: questions about maturity, giving, attendance or belief ask people to score themselves, and people score themselves generously.

How is it priced?

Every project is priced by your typical Sunday attendance, the people you invite, not only those who respond. Projects are a one-time fee. The One Question is monthly, in three-month seasons. The Solomon Project is a one-time fee per cohort, by the leaders you plan to invite. For The One Question, that is $29 a month up to 500, $49 up to 1,000, or $99 up to 2,500. Each includes your question and its link, the season tap, a card for every person, the quarterly read and export. More than 2,500 or more than one campus? Let's talk.

What happens after the first season?

It keeps going. The One Question is monthly, with a three-month minimum: one season. It stays on until you cancel, and if you cancel, your current season finishes out. Partway through your first season, someone from our team checks in to see how it's going.

For larger and multi-campus churches

The One Question is built for churches of hundreds to thousands. Name readers who already know the people, so no one person carries the whole line. Every answer exports by person to CSV for your own people system, and your elders get the name-free read. More than 2,500 on a typical Sunday, or more than one campus? Let's talk about a plan for your size. If you add The Martha Project, its lists and reports filter by campus, a campus point person can be limited to their own campus, and results sync one way into Planning Center on a Martha Project tab, matched by phone, then name, then email.

How does it fit with The Martha Project?

The One Question listens: one question, one tap, a read of the room each season. The Martha Project goes deeper: three short days on each person's phone, a Capacity Profile for every person, then a 90-day Activation Season. Many churches start here, and Martha is open on its own too. See The Martha Project
